Mayor Kyle R. Hastings and the Orland Hills Police Department are issuing a crime pattern alert.

Over the last three weeks, two separate incidents have occured in the town relating to residential burglary.  These cases are quite similar, in that the perpetrators (bad guys) use a "Ruse entry" approach.  These burglars are targeting elderly victims.

They pretend to be inspecting homes or checking utility connections.  It may include luring the individual from the home to go outside looking at connections near or around the house.  While this takes place, other individuals enter the home and burglarize it.  Sometimes they work in pairs and communicate on telephones/walkie talkies acting as if they are looking for a problem.  They may be speaking in Spanish or in English.

Be aware of any type of occurance, such as this.
When in doubt - call the police.
If you see anything suspicious - call the police.

Remember, the real utility people will have ID Cards clearly visible.  The ID Cards will clearly show the company name and the individual's name & photo.

Do not let people in your home unless you know them.  Or wait until you have made clear identification of them.  Again - If in doubt, call the police.
